Soul to Soul

This moving and uplifting concert — performed on the very bimah where Dr. King once spoke at Stephen Wise Free Synagogue — features Yiddish and English songs by Jewish and African-American artists expressing lament, protest against racism and antisemitism, and hope for a brighter future.

The concert culminates in a rousing celebration of the songs that fueled the sit-ins and marches of the Civil Rights Movement performed by a children’s choir from Stephen Wise Free Synagogue, Harlem’s IMPACT Repertory Theatre and the Abraham Joshua Heschel School.

With special guest speakers Congressman Ritchie Torres and Peter A. Geffen, Founder of the Abraham Joshua Heschel School and Founder/President of The Kivunim Institute.

Performances by singers Lisa Fishman, Cantor Magda Fishman, Elmore James, Sam McKelton and Cantor Dan Singer with musicians Yoshi Fruchter, Brian Glassman, Matt Temkin, and Michael Winograd, led by NYTF’s Artistic Director Zalmen Mlotek.
